Default Pricing Completely Unique (one of a kind) Items

First off, I hope this is the right forum for this question since I'm not specifically asking for a price check but more of a inquiry on how to price check very rare items. Based on the fact that I'm looking more for opinions and discussion, I thought this forum would be the best fit for the topic.

Anyway, I have this axe which from my knowledge and from what I have been told from other people who are much more knowledgeable then I, is probably the only one of its kind to still exist in Guild Wars. I have posted about this axe before (when I started up again a few months back and needed gold). Since then I have gotten lots of whispers in regards to selling the axe. Some of the offers have been in my mind outrageous (way more than I can imagine the item is worth: very large sums of ectos, undedicated minis including an undedicated panda, unconditional weapon +15%...) and perhaps the people making the offers were not completely serious. One guy, I think was offering me his car, but like I said I am sure he was not serious.

Due to my affinity for the item I have not sold the axe. But I would be lying to say that some of the offers did not tempt me. But honestly, how do you price items like this. I know there are other very rare items floating around. When buying or selling them how do people come up with a price. Is it basically a matter of the two parties just coming up with a number (no real set price ) or is there some frame of reference that people go off of?

Any insights would be appreciated.

If it really is a one of a kind item the price it sells for is set by you. If they want it, they pay your price. Granted, whether they decide they want it enough to match your price is a different matter. The best way to sell it (if you wanted to) would be to get a Price Check, start an auction of some kind, and use the PC as a rough guide to a reserve.

Btw, don't know if that axe is necessarily one of a kind. Looks like a randomly modded weapon from a Prophecies collector. Someone out there may still be offering that item. Anet has on occasions retroactively modified equipment that has unattainable mods so the current availability of it is unknown (unless someone checks all the collectors, anyway).

Well, from a quick look at all the non-max collectors on wiki, I'd say it's probably not attainable any more. As to value, I'd say you gotta look at it from the two different perspectives.

A Collector of old and nerfed items might pay you, as you said, a huge amount for it, but someone else might not, since it's only 3 energy better than any other caster wep, and you have to be hexed (and enchanted, although you should be), to get that benefit.

The real value comes from the fact that for any type of farm build that uses enchants and faces hexed foes (which there are a couple I think), that axe is going to be pretty good. I don't know if I'd price it at 2000+ ectos, but if that's what people want to do hey haha.

I faced the exact same thing when I was trying to sell the axe in question, a while ago. I got a lot of people that wanted a buyout but nobody was willing to go much over 100K for it.

Eventually I did sell it for around 100K because the benefits of the item are really minor, the rarity of it, is pretty small, but I know for a fact that Capitalist has one that he bought after I sold mine.... for 5K

I would be interested in buying this axe myself, but also not for much over 100K and only just so I could have it back as I really wont use it. I wish I didnt delete my customized one but it was custo'd on a character I stopped using.

GL selling it, my guess is you will not be happy with any offers you get, from past exp. myself.

As to the general question of PC on 100% unique items, what I think, is the more rare an item (particularly quest rewards) the less is known about it, and the more reluctant the buyers because they will always wonder if it is something they can just get as a quest reward still. Its just very difficult to sell something like that for a good price.

That has always been part of my reluctance to sell the axe. While for the most part its stats are meh... Its kind of got a nitch use. I originally got it for my warrior way back when, when I used to run to Droks. The extra energy specifically when hexed was really nice. Now a days I don't use it as much. I do play around with it, on some of my toons but for the most part a consistent +5 energy just seems more useful - though I kind of liked it on my monk for extra automatic energy during bad times (which I considered dealing with hexes bad times but then again I'm a newb healer).

I'd be curious to hear from people who have decided to sell some of there more .. I guess you might say prized processions, as to what was their motivation. Was it simply a need for lots of capital quickly or just a desire for change wanting something different.

Funny enough, one of my concerns is that I will accidentally delete the item (tired, not paying attention, quickly merching stuff...). That alone has almost gotten me to consider selling it.
